Transforming Thai Airports with Smart Technology to Become Asia’s Aviation Center

Thailand is strategically positioned to become a leading Aviation Hub in the region. Located at the crossroads between East and West, the country is home to Suvarnabhumi Airport — a key gateway with strong infrastructure and the capacity to handle high volumes of passengers. However, achieving world-class status will require more than location and capacity — it demands technological advancement.

SKY ICT, a leading Thai technology company, is playing a pivotal role in modernizing Thailand’s airports. In an interview on The Secret Sauce, CEO Sittidej Mailarp revealed the company’s ambitious plan to invest over 10 billion baht in aviation technology, integrating AI, Big Data, and smart systems into airport operations.

SKY ICT’s vision focuses on elevating Thai airports across three key dimensions

1. Security

AI-powered surveillance systems and intelligent CCTV are used to detect abnormal behavior and identify individuals in real time. This enhances both the speed and accuracy of airport security, reducing reliance on manual monitoring.

2. Operations

A centralized Smart Command Center integrates real-time data across all airport systems — including flight status, baggage handling, and passenger flow — enabling more efficient, coordinated, and error-free operations.

3. Passenger Experience

With technologies such as self check-in kiosks, e-Gates, smart baggage drops, and digital wayfinding tools, SKY ICT is creating a seamless travel experience for passengers from arrival to boarding.

IT Company to Aviation Tech Enabler

Originally established as an IT infrastructure provider, SKY ICT has since transformed into a Tech Enabler in the aviation sector. The company is now laying the digital foundation for airports across Thailand, turning them into “smart airports” powered by data.

At the heart of this transformation is the philosophy that “Data is the New Fuel.” Real-time data empowers airports to optimize resources, reduce congestion, enhance safety, and handle more passengers — all without the need to physically expand the space.

Transit Point to Global Destination

With Thailand’s physical infrastructure already in place, investing in digital systems and AI is the missing puzzle piece that can push the country toward its Aviation Hub ambition. If Thailand can deliver airports that are safe, smart, and seamlessly connected, the country will no longer be just a transit point — it will become a destination for airlines, investors, and travelers from around the world.
